Learn the kind of piano you really want to play!

It doesn’t matter if you have never touched a piano, I will have you or your child making music and playing your favourite music in only a few weeks. Hear me play the genres I can teach you below.

Classical Piano

If you love classical music I can teach you to play your favourite pieces on the piano. I teach anyone from the age of 4 upwards and I will tailor the lessons to suit your ability and requirements so it doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner or a more advanced student.

I travel to your house and teach all aspects of classical music including sight-reading, scales and arpeggios, aural (listening) skills, theory, performance technique, finger exercises, musical appreciation and compositional and improvisational skills.

I am a member of the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and if required can teach ABRSM classical grades 1-8 as well as any other graded exams from other boards including Trinity Guildhall.

Pop & Rock Piano

Pop and Rock songs are in many ways easier to learn than classical or jazz pieces. I can teach you how to use simple chords to play any pop or rock song of your choice easily on the piano.

I teach anyone from the age of 4 upwards and I will tailor the lessons to suit your ability and requirements so it doesn’t matter if you are a complete beginner or a more advanced student.

Lessons can include standard chord sequences, chord inversions and patterns, separating chords into bass and harmony and using chords in both hands.

I can also take students through graded pop or rock exams for any exam board including Rockschool graded piano exams.

Jazz Piano

If you’re passionate about jazz you can learn how to use chords to play your favourite jazz songs on the piano. No prior musical knowledge is necessary and it is relaxing learning in the comfort of your own home.

I teach different forms of jazz including ragtime, swing, bebop, hard bop and modern as well as chord names, chords in every key, turnarounds, chord progressions, major and minor blues and jazz scales, blue notes, improvisation, motifs and riffs.

Other aspects of jazz I can teach include playing by ear (without reading any music), theory, finger exercises, scales, key signatures, sight reading, improvising and composing.

I can also take students through graded jazz exams for any exam board including the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity Guildhall.

Blues Piano

Blues is the basis of jazz and many other musical genres such as rock, pop, soul and funk. It is based on simple chord patterns and unique scales and is extremely useful to learn before exploring non-classical genres.

Even if you have never had any musical training it is easy to learn the blues. I teach different forms of blues including 4-bar, 8-bar and 12-bar blues as well as chord names, chords in every key, turnarounds, chord progressions, major and minor blues scales, blue notes, improvisation, motifs and riffs.

I can also teach you how to play your favourite blues songs on the piano.

‘I am a complete beginner who has no previous musical experience. I don’t practice enough and I have no natural talent! Despite these slight obstacles David has with patience, humour and kindness taught me to sight-read music and to play the piano well enough that the piece is recognisable and sounds pretty good. I look forward to my weekly lessons with David, knowing I will be challenged and nurtured at the same time.’ Karen

‘David has inspired Madison and given her the confidence to really have fun learning the piano.’ Victoria (Madison’s Mother).
